Talking to PTI from the airport, Jai Prakash Nautiyal, chief national coach and chairman of Indian para shooting, said that Lekhara and her coach have got visas. “Avni and her coach have got visas but her escort, who is also her mother, could not get them,” he said.
Many Paralympic shooters did not get visa
Jai Prakash further said, apart from this, three para shooters Singhraj, Rahul Jhakhar and Deepinder Singh (all para pistol shooters) and two coaches Subhash Rana (national coach) and Vivek Saini (assistant coach) did not get visa. The French embassy did not give any reason, he said. He only said that there is a huge demand for visas. We applied for visa on 23rd April. The Ministry of External Affairs also intervened and tried to help us but six members could not get visas. The tournament is to be held from June 4 to 13 and will also provide quotas for the Paris Paralympics.

Only 22 players got visa
Nautiyal said, we are now going with 22 members, of which 14 are shooters. We were hopeful that everyone will get visa because the next Paralympics are to be held in Paris and 18 quotas will be fixed by this tournament.
