The pair was sacked by RCB after the 2018 IPL season and this pair has now written the script for the victory of Gujarat Titans in IPL-2022.
The 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is over. Gujarat Titans, who debuted this season, won the title in their very first season. Gujarat won by defeating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in the match played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, the team showed a strong game together, but the team’s support staff played as big a role in getting the team’s title on the field. Especially mentor Gary Kirsten and coach Ashish Nehra. The pair of these two played a big role in getting the team the title from behind the scenes and the players of the team also accepted this. This is the same pair which was dropped by Royal Challengers Bangalore before the 2019 season. But this pair wrote a new story with the new team and gave the title to the new team.
RCB appointed Nehra as the bowling coach and Kirsten as the batting coach after the 2018 season. But both of them were dropped before the next season. Although the game of RCB did not change even after this and they could not win the title, but Nehra and Kirsten returned to this league with a new team in IPL-2022 and made the team the winner.
Hardik tied the bridge of praise
Kirsten has a lot of coaching experience. He has also been the coach of the Indian team. It was during his time that the team won the World Cup in 2011. It is said about Kirsten that he lets the players play freely and gives confidence. Nehra’s style is carefree. He neither takes much pressure nor puts pressure on his players. What has been the contribution of these two in the success of the team that it can be understood from the statement of Captain Pandya after the match.
He said, “The kind of support the support staff gave us was fantastic. Me and Ashu Pa are similar in thinking. We wanted us to have bowlers who can get us victories in T20s. From Ashish Nehra to Ashish Kapoor, Gary, the credit for success goes to them.”
hard work on the field
There are many examples of the way Kirsten and Nehra kept the players of the team tied and got them out of their game. Shubman Gill’s season was not very good but still both of them gave plenty of opportunities to this young batsman and Gill played an unbeaten 45 not out at crucial times in the final. Young bowler Yash Dayal is also an example.
Mumbai rejected Hardik
Not only Nehra and Kirsten, Pandya was also the player who was let go by his team. Pandya started his IPL career with Mumbai Indians. With this team, Pandya won titles in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. But Mumbai did not retain Pandya. Gujarat took this opportunity and made him the captain of their team. There were many apprehensions about Pandya. He was troubled by injury, but Pandya flourished under the captaincy of Gujarat. He showed maturity with the bat as well and did wonders with the bowling as well. In the final, Pandya took three big wickets and scored 34 runs. Till now, Pandya used to lift the IPL trophy as a player, but this time he did this work as a captain.
