The 30-year-old Stokes hasn’t played cricket since July. He has taken a break from cricket citing his mental reasons. Ben Stokes has undergone a second operation for a broken finger, which is certain to be out of the Ashes series.

Stokes, who took an indefinite break from cricket after being ruled out of the home series against India, had injured his left index finger four months ago while playing the IPL for Rajasthan Royals. The report said that Stokes’ finger will now recover faster and he will also get relief from pain. He is unlikely to return to the field in the near future. The Ashes series will be played in December-January.

Second operation done this week

Stokes also posted a photo on Instagram on Wednesday with his wife Claire, in which his index finger was seen bandaged. The ECB said in a statement, “Ben Stokes has undergone a second operation on Monday 4 October for a finger injured in the IPL in April. He will now be under the supervision of the ECB’s medical team for the next four weeks. Stokes performed brilliantly during the 2019 Ashes. Chasing a target of 359 at Headingley, Stokes scored an unbeaten 135.

English players are hesitant to go to Australia

At present, tension is being seen between England and Australia Cricket Board regarding the Ashes series. Because the players of England want relaxation in the rules of Quarantine applicable in Australia. But the Australian government is not ready to make concessions. England is to leave for Australia at the end of November to play the five-match series. But the English players are not happy due to the stringent quarantine and bio-bubble rules made by the Australian government to prevent corona infection. He has also expressed his disagreement on this. English players want that they should be allowed to bring their families as well. But the Australian government is not ready for this.
