After a long wait of many years in Pakistan, now almost all the big teams have started arriving to play cricket. After the terrorist attack on Sri Lanka in 2009, the Pakistani team had to move to the United Arab Emirates for their home series. Now cricket has returned to Pakistan, but the situation in its neighboring Afghanistan has still not become worth it. This is the reason that now Afghanistan has also turned to UAE for its home series and for this a special agreement has been made with the Emirates Cricket Board.
The Afghan team, which has been improving its performance at the international level, has had to struggle to play international cricket at home as the security situation in the country has worsened for more than a year and a half. In such a situation, no team has been able to visit Afghanistan to play cricket. Afghanistan played some of its international matches in India till 2-3 years ago, where it faced teams like Ireland and West Indies.
Made UAE a new home
There is no sign of improvement in the situation in the future as well and in view of this, Afghanistan has entered into an agreement with the Emirati Board. Under this, UAE will remain the home of Afghan cricket for the next 5 years. The Afghan team will play its home series in the grounds of Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
Not only this, under this agreement, T20 series of three matches each will be played between Afghanistan and UAE cricket team every year. In return, the Afghan team will get all the facilities and assistance from UAE.
Afghan team on Sri Lanka tour
The Afghan team is currently on a tour of Sri Lanka, where the ODI series is being played between the two teams. Afghanistan defeated Sri Lanka by 60 runs in the first match. This is the first series of the Afghan team after the T20 World Cup. In the World Cup held in Australia, Afghanistan also suffered losses due to rain and finished last in the Super-12 stage. However, earlier in the Asia Cup T20 played in UAE, he had performed strongly and made it to the second round.
