Yes, former Pakistan captain and fast bowler Wasim Akram may have retired from cricket now. Even though now his age is 55. But, in 1989, when he was 23 years old, he wreaked havoc with his bowling in a match played for Pakistan in Sharjah on 14 October. Shoaib Mohammad and captain Imran Khan scored the highest 45-45 runs in the middle order.

Now West Indies had a target of 251 runs, chasing their opening partnership was settled early but there was a great partnership between Desmond Haynes and Richie Richardson for the second wicket. Imran Khan dismissed both Haynes and Richardson. But, before getting out, both of them had laid the foundation for the victory of West Indies. Which was further strengthened by Viv Richards’ 46 and Carlisle Best’s 53 in the middle order. But the real twist was yet to come in the story of West Indies moving fast towards victory. And, he brought Wasim Akram.
