Shoaib Malik (centre) played his last ODI in the 2019 World Cup.
Pakistan made a change in the T20 World Cup on 9 October. Actually his batsman Sohaib Maqsood got injured. Due to this, veteran batsman Shoaib Malik has been included in the team. There were a lot of questions raised about Malik not being picked in the T20 team but now he is back. He has played five T20 World Cups so far. He was the captain of Pakistan when this tournament was held for the first time in 2007. Later in 2009, when Pakistan won the T20 World Cup, he was part of the team. Then he also played in 2012, 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cup. In the last T20 World Cup, he scored runs at an average of 96 and a strike rate of 165.5. But for some time he was running out of the Pakistani team and that is why he was not selected in the team of T20 World Cup.
Shoaib Malik made his international debut in 1999 through ODIs. They have been active since then. A Pakistani channel’s video about his long career is becoming quite viral. In this, from the debut of Malik till now, the changes that have come in the country and the world are being talked about. Malik has played 116 International T20 matches so far and scored 6559 runs at an average of 31.13 and strike rate of 124.20. On the other hand, in the remaining T20 matches, he has scored 11033 runs in 443 matches at an average of 36.53 and strike rate of 126.19. He doesn’t have a century to his name but has 67 fifties.
Only behind Babar-Rizwan since 2016
Since the 2016 T20 World Cup, only Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have scored more runs than Shoaib Malik among Pakistani players. If 150 runs are made the scale, then no Pakistani batsman is ahead of Malik’s strike rate of 149.21. That is, the speed of scoring everyone’s runs is behind Malik. In the last season of Pakistan Super League, he was at number four in scoring runs. He scored 354 runs at a strike rate of around 150. However, he failed in the Caribbean Premier League and his highest score was 23 runs in 10 innings.
Malik has left Test-ODI
Shoaib Malik is one of the few players who stepped into international cricket in the 20th century and is still playing. He has also captained Pakistan in all three formats of T20, ODI and Test. Also, he has played under the captaincy of 15 different captains so far. Shoaib Malik has retired from Tests and ODIs. He last played a Test series against England in 2015 in UAE. In this, the career’s highest score was made 245 runs. Along with this, he also did the best bowling of his career in Tests by taking four wickets. But after this series he retired. He could not open the account in his last Test innings. At the same time, his last ODI was against India in the 2019 World Cup. He was also out in the last ODI without opening the account.
