The ICC has recently released the ODI rankings. India’s star batsman Mithali Raj once again occupies the first place.
Veteran batsman Mithali Raj is India’s ODI captain
Mithali Raj of India has maintained her first position in the latest ICC World Rankings. However, this time with him, South African star batsman Lizelle Lee has also come jointly with him in the first place. Lee played a big half-century in the first match against West Indies, which he has now got the advantage. Lee scored an unbeaten 91 in the first ODI against West Indies.
Mithali has retained her number one position and is now jointly on top with Lee. Both the batsmen have 762 rating points. Australia’s Alyssa Healy is in third place. India’s opener Smriti Mandhana is in the top 10 with ninth place. After reaching the top of the batting rankings for the first time in June 2018, Lee, who became the number one batsman in March this year, scored 18 runs in the second match.
Jhulan and Deepti in top 10
Veteran India pacer Jhulan Goswami and senior spinner Poonam Yadav have retained their fifth and ninth positions respectively in the bowlers’ list. Deepti Sharma remains at the fifth position in the all-rounders’ list. India’s young star batsman Shefali Verma continues to top the T20 batting rankings with 759 points. He is followed by Australia’s Beth Mooney (744) and Indian T20 vice-captain Mandhana (716).
There has been no change in the rankings of Deepti (6th) and Poonam (8th) in the T20 bowling rankings. Deepti also remains at the fourth position in the all-rounders’ list. In the list of T20 bowlers, England’s Sarah Glenn has moved up from one place to the second. New Zealand’s off-spinner Leigh Kasperek has moved up seven places to 15th while all-rounder Jess Kerr has gained eight places to be at 58th.
Mithali is on a tour of Australia with Team India
Mithali Raj is currently on a tour of Australia with the Indian women’s cricket team. The tour will begin with the first ODI match to be played on 19 September. On this tour, the Indian team will play a three-match ODI and T20 series in addition to a Test match, this Test match will be played with a pink ball and this will be the first pink ball test in the history of the Indian women’s team. Before leaving for this tour, captain Mithali Raj said that the team has worked on all aspects during the practice camp.
