Elections were held for Rajya Sabha due to the high number of candidates in 4 states. The Election Commission had appointed special observers to ensure fair conduct of elections along with video recording of the entire process.
Rajya Sabha elections (Rajya Sabha Elections) Results have come out from all the 4 states. In Maharashtra and Haryana, the counting of votes began late in the night due to complaints of violation of rules, while in Karnataka and Rajasthan the results were declared on Friday evening itself. In the biennial elections held for 16 seats out of 4 elections, the biggest reversal happened in Maharashtra, where the ruling MVA alliance had to be satisfied with 3 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party lost 3 seats.
In these 4 states, elections became necessary because the number of candidates was more than the number of seats to be selected. The Election Commission had appointed special observers to ensure fair conduct of elections along with video recording of the entire process. Earlier only in Rajasthan and Karnataka the results could be declared till last evening.
16 seats results
In Rajasthan, the ruling Congress has won 3 out of 4 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has got one. BJP-backed Independent candidate Subhash Chandra failed to secure a victory.
On the other hand, in Karnataka, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, actor-politician Jaggesh, BJP’s Lahar Singh Siroya and former Congress Union Minister Jairam Ramesh were declared elected.

In Haryana, BJP’s Krishan Lal Panwar and independent candidate Kartikeya Sharma backed by the saffron party have won two Rajya Sabha seats.
Whereas in Maharashtra, out of six seats, the BJP and the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) won three seats each. After getting permission from the Election Commission in the state, the counting of votes could start after one o’clock in the night.
Janata Dal Secular did not get victory in Karnataka
The ruling BJP in Karnataka won all the three seats on which it had fielded its candidates in the elections to the four Rajya Sabha seats from the state. However, the Congress got only one seat while it had fielded its candidates on two seats.
The Janata Dal Secular could not win a single seat, which had fielded a candidate despite not having enough votes. Congress did not accept the request of JDS to support in the name of secularism. After the counting of votes, election officials declared Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, actor-politician Jaggesh and outgoing MLC Lahar Singh Siroya, besides Congress leader and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh as the victors. Sitharaman and Ramesh were re-elected to the Upper House of Parliament from Karnataka.
Counting of votes in Maharashtra after 8 hours
