However, inside the Congress, more discussion is being done about ‘digital membership’, whose target is not the organization elections but the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. According to sources, while about 30 million members have been made from the slip during five months, in the first 40 days itself, the number of members formed through digital campaign has reached about 13 million.

The importance of the digital membership campaign can be understood from the fact that in the very beginning, Rahul Gandhi himself subscribed digitally. According to sources, Priyanka Gandhi is also going to take digital membership in the coming days. According to information received from party sources, till now 42% women are involved in digital membership while 47% of the members are between 18 to 40 years of age. Congress had unsuccessfully tried to mobilize women and youth even in the UP assembly elections. However, of the digitally created members of the party, 18% are from the general category, 32% are OBC, 21% are scheduled castes, 12% tribes, 10% are minorities and 4% are economically backward.

Digital membership started from this state

Digital membership started from Telangana in February. At present it continues in 16 states in which Telangana is on top. Till Saturday, its figure was 35 lakh in Telangana, 34 lakh in Karnataka, 15 lakh in Maharashtra, 10 lakh in Gujarat, 10 lakh in Kerala, 5 lakh in Chhattisgarh, 4 lakh in Bihar, 3 lakh in Delhi and 3 lakh in Rajasthan. At present, South India has the upper hand in this campaign. Soon it will be started in the remaining states and also in those states where assembly elections have been held. According to a source related to this, the goal is to include all the members of the slip in the digital register.

Party sources estimate that by the prescribed limit of March 31, about 4 crore members can be made in the Congress through slip and about 2 crore members in the digital way. This is double the number compared to the membership drive held five years ago. Although the official figures are still estimated. Claiming the specialty of digital membership, a Congress leader said that there is no place for forgery in it. The whole process is in three stages.
