NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu (Draupadi Murmu) will file her nomination on June 24. Murmu was nominated as the NDA’s presidential candidate by Bharatiya Janata Party President JP Nadda in the party’s parliamentary committee meeting on Tuesday. 64-year-old Murmu is the former governor of Jharkhand. If she wins the presidential election, she will be the first tribal woman to reach the highest office in the country.
If we look at the numbers, it is known that the presidential election seems to be going in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party. This is the second time in a row that the party has tried to send a concrete message by announcing its name for the presidential election after Ram Nath Kovind, who hails from the Dalit community, was made the President five years ago.
Announcing her name, BJP President JP Nadda said that 20 names were discussed in the parliamentary committee meeting, in which the name of Draupadi Murmu was at the forefront – a woman from a tribal community coming from eastern India. After the announcement of his name, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him in a tweet. At the same time, Naveen Patnaik also congratulated Draupadi Murmu, who was a minister in the Odisha government.

How is the President elected?
The President is indirectly elected by the members of Parliament and the Legislative Assemblies of the States and Union Territories through the Electoral College. There are one million votes in an electoral college. The Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA is estimated to get 48 per cent of the vote and regional parties – which are believed to have no alliance with any party – may extend their support to the BJP.
