A few years ago, when African colonialism did not end, Pandit Nehru inaugurated the African Studies Department at Delhi University. On this occasion, on 5 August 1955, he said-

This is so natural and important that the people of India study Africa, so if you ignore the study of Africa, you will make a huge mistake, for us it is important that we understand Africa, its people and problems, when I think of Africa, I have many thoughts, I have a feeling of making a kind of atonement for humanity. The way Africa and its people have been treated for centuries, the rest of the world should have a feeling of remorse.
