Bengal Train Accident: ‘Can the train derail itself’? BJP leader Roopa Ganguly demands CBI inquiry

At least nine people were killed and 36 others were injured when a Bikaner-Guwahati Express train crashed near Domohani in Alipurduar sub-division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) on Thursday.

CBI investigation requested

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav visited the accident site of Bikaner-Guwahati Express train in Jalpaiguri district on Friday. During this, he said that the initial report showed that there was some defect in the locomotive’s equipment. In fact, a major train accident took place on Thursday near Domohani in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. 12 coaches of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express train derailed. Some coaches were overturned in this accident. Nine people lost their lives in this accident. At the same time, about 36 people were injured.

Visiting the spot, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the cause of the accident would be known only after the engine equipment was fully opened. He also met the injured passengers by visiting the hospital. After inspecting the spot, the Railway Minister told reporters that preliminary findings suggest that there was a defect in any of the rail-engine equipment, adding that there would be marks on the equipment, not the speed of the train or the tracks. The Railway Minister said that the cause of the accident would be known only after opening the equipment and looking at the marks.
