Actor Vijay.
Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) on Friday announced his political intentions and announced that party founder and president actor cum leader Vijay will be the Chief Ministerial candidate from the party in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections to be held in 2026. Along with this, the party has rejected the possibility of any kind of alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
With this decision, actor Vijay's party TVK's recent announcement in Tamil Nadu politics has created a new political stir. Vijay himself comes out for the post of Chief Minister and making a clear distance from the DMK-BJP indicates that the party is working on a strategy to emerge as a third option in the 2026 election.
The party's executive committee meeting was held in Panyur, in which several major decisions were taken. In this meeting, Vijay was entrusted with the right to the decisions related to the alliance. During the meeting, Vijay, while addressing the party workers, clarified that TVK will neither form a direct or indirect alliance with the ruling DMK nor the BJP.
Distance made from BJP and DMK
Vijay said, BJP tries to divide people on religious grounds and only does politics for cheap political gains. TVK's ideology is completely different from such divisive forces. He further said that the party will keep distance from all the forces that work to break social harmony.
However, interestingly, TVK did not rule out the possibility of an alliance with AIADMK., Political experts believe that the party can enter the electoral battle by forming a new alliance in the coming time, which can also include AIADMK.
Vijay also strongly criticized the DMK government at the proposed Greenfield Airport in Parlandur. He said that this project will displace thousands of families and will also cause huge damage to the agricultural system of the area. Taking a dig at Chief Minister MK Stalin, he said, “If you cannot meet the people of Parandur, I am ready to introduce him to the secretariat.”
Statewide tour will be done from September
TVK announced that Vijay will leave on a statewide tour from September 2025 to December 2025. The purpose of this tour will be to gather public support for the party and communicate directly with voters. Apart from this, the party has also announced to run a membership campaign keeping a target of connecting two crore members.
Several important resolutions were also passed in the party meeting. In this, the central government was demanded to bring back the Kachatiivu island and the central government was accused of hiding the evidence of 2000 year old urban civilization found in the kejri. Another proposal condemned the behavior of farmers during the protests of farmers in Delhi.
Emphasis on raising issues of farmers and public
A proposal passed in the meeting said that TVK will raise the ground issues related to common farmers and common people in the state prominently. The party has made it clear that its goal is not just the election victory, but the good and social justice of the citizens of Tamil Nadu.
