Keeping in mind the upcoming budget session and the ever-increasing cases of Corona, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu spoke to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. There was a discussion between the two on the issue of what should be the outline of the budget session to start in the next few weeks after about 400 employees in Parliament were infected.
According to sources, on Monday morning, the Vice President discussed with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha how the outline of the upcoming budget session should be. Both made it clear that the health security of the MPs is paramount, preparations should be made in this regard. According to sources, the Vice President has asked the Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha and Om Birla, the Secretary General of the Lok Sabha, to hold a detailed meeting on the issue and give a report at the earliest.

According to sources, there is a serious discussion on whether the first phase of the budget session, which starts from February 1, can be shortened. Usually, the first phase of the budget session is of 8 to 10 days, the duration of which can be reduced to 1 to 2 days. Since the explosion of Corona during the budget session of the year 2020, the proceedings of Parliament are being done keeping in mind the COVID protocol. Since then there has been a restriction on movement inside Parliament to an extent.
Be it staff of MPs, outsiders or media, a partial ban has been placed on everyone’s entry into Parliament. Yes, even in the proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament, full care of the COVID Protocol has been taken. The timings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were also kept separately and the visitors gallery was also used in order to keep the MPs at a proper distance to follow social distancing. Even a gap of 2 hours was kept between the commencement of the proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and out of that gap, Parliament has been completely sanitized.
Keeping in mind the ever-increasing cases of corona in the country and the increasing prevalence of Omicron variants, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Chairman of Rajya Sabha contemplated on the budget session starting from February 1. Generally, the budget session of Parliament is held in two parts. The first part consists of a session of 8 to 10 days. Then after the break, in the second part, the work of Parliament takes place for 3-4 weeks.
