Rifleman Gabbar Singh Negi

Rafaleman Gabbar Singh Negi participated in the First World War on behalf of the British Indian Army. It is the result of his valor that today in every house children are told stories of their valor. Also, children are encouraged to join the army. Gabbar Singh Negi was born on 21 April 1895 in Manjud village of Garhwal. He joined the Garhwal Rifles on 6 October 1913. In 1914, he was sent to France during the First World War.
Martyr at the age of 20
The Battalion II Garhwal Rifle of Rafilman Gabbar Singh was to fight a war against the German army. Its command was handed over to Gabbar Singh Negi. Gabbar Singh, showing his bravery, took 350 soldiers and officers of the German army captive. Also captured Germany’s famous New Chapel Land. Fighting bravely in this war, he attained Veergati on 10 March 1915. When Gabbar Singh Negi was martyred, he was just 20 years old.
The British were also shocked to see the bravery
In 1925, a memorial was built in his memory by the Garhwal Rifles in Chamba. Since then, every year on his martyrdom day, the army pays tribute to him. The British soldiers were also stunned to see the valor of Gabbar Singh. Due to the boldness with which he fought and showed courage, the British Army could get an edge in the war.
The Victoria Cross is the highest honor received from Britain and Rifleman Gabbar Singh Negi was awarded this honor posthumously. There is also a memorial in his name in London and tribute is paid to him on his birthday.
Every year a fair is organized in the memory of Rafaleman Gabbar Singh on his birthday. This tradition continues since 1925 and in this fair people are told about the bravery of Gabbar Singh. It is because of Rifleman Gabbar Singh that Garhwal is still known as the Land of Gabbar Singh.
