Now that the orchards have been cleared from 40 per cent of the area, the agriculture department is taking measures.
Due to these pests and diseases on pomegranate orchards, farmers have lost lakhs. The situation is such that the farmer has to cut the entire orchard, because these kits are soon applied to other crops as well. In such a situation, farmers have no option but to cut the entire orchard. Farmers are saying that if guidance had been given at the right time, the pinhole borer or deadly disease could have been controlled and the orchards could have been saved. During this time no guidance was given and now the officials of the Agriculture Department have come up with the work of dredging, spraying and applying chemicals to protect the orchards from diseases. It is believed that this will protect the parks in the rest of the area.
Central team came to inspect
The central team had arrived in Sangola taluka about a month ago to study the orchards in the area. They were trying to find out the impact of climate change on pomegranate cultivation. After this the team officials had instructed the farmers that this situation has arisen due to not taking proper care during climate change. After this a conference was organized for the farmers. In this conference, questions were raised on the poor management of pomegranate research center and the role of agriculture department.
How to take care of the orchards?
Pomegranate bark paste is applied by farmers to prevent the infestation of insects, so that the outbreak of insects does not increase, as there is still no cure for this pinhole borer disease. In such a situation, preventive measures are important. Farmers are being guided on how to apply recommended insecticide, fungicide dredging, spraying and insecticide paste around pomegranate trees. The Agriculture Department is now going to the orchards of the farmers and giving information about the prevention of this pest.
