Kerala has increased the availability of oxygen by 58 percent in the last one year. The presently available daily oxygen in government hospitals is 219.22 MT, while the daily requirement of hospitals as on 21 April was 82.18 MT.
Kerala is the only state in the country which has more oxygen than required amidst lack of oxygen. Kerala is giving oxygen to Goa, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in times of trouble.
Oxygen deficiency is occurring across the country amid increasing cases of Corona Virus. Everyday, lack of oxygen in Delhi (Delhi) and Maharashtra (Maharashtra) is killing patients. But Kerala is the only state where oxygen is sufficient. The government is continuously increasing the preparations here. There is a liquid medical oxygen plant, 100 meters away from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, which provides oxygen to the patients admitted in the ICU. Till now the capacity of this oxygen plant was 20 thousand liters, which has now been increased to 40 thousand liters. However, this is not an exception in Kerala.
Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Deputy Superintendent K.K. Santosh says that, “Enhancement capacity has been important. Last October, we discovered that our oxygen capacity would be low. The government has spent a lot on oxygen plants, especially in all medical colleges. Because most of the ICU beds are in the medical colleges of Kerala. If you take 10 medical colleges, then all of them now have at least 2 such liquid oxygen plants. They are not set abruptly. Planning has been done for this. “
58 percent oxygen increase in Kerala
According to the news of NDTV, Kerala has increased the availability of oxygen by 58 percent in the last one year. The presently available daily oxygen in government hospitals is 219.22 MT, while the daily requirement of hospitals as on 21 April was 82.18 MT. There are 23 oxygen feeding plants in Kerala, most of which are private.
R Venugopal, Deputy Chief Controller, Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organization (PESO) said, “Around March last year, we had 11 Air Separation Units. Six of them were partially working. In the next few months, all 11 will work at full capacity. “
Oxygen supply cut to industries
This year, due to the focus on medical oxygen, the supply of industries has been cut. Inox is the largest oxygen plant in Kerala, producing 149 metric tons. It is now fully focused on medical supplies.
By 2020, it supplied 40 percent of the production to the industries. With its oxygen, Kerala is helping other states in crisis. Kerala is sending oxygen to states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Goa.
23 percent positive rate in Kerala
Aparna Nair, manager of Dakshin Gas Limited, said, “Due to the second wave of Corona, there is a huge increase in demand. We are seeking to almost double our installed capacity. There is a continuous demand for oxygen from Hyderabad, Chennai, Tirunelveli. We informed Venugopal ji about these additional demands, and requested to make way. Everyday we get upset people call and it is very bad to tell them that we do not have oxygen. ” Kerala has a positivity rate of around 21 percent. Serious restrictions have been imposed in the state at the end of this week.
Why is there a lack of oxygen in the whole country
There is a shortage of oxygen throughout the country with increasing cases of corona. Delhi has the highest shortage of oxygen. This is because there is not a single oxygen plant in Delhi. Delhi has to take oxygen from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand. Although there is not a shortage of oxygen across the country, the basic infrastructure that delivers oxygen is not right, due to which the oxygen is not being delivered in the hospitals at the right time. The situation is that the empty oxygen tanker is being transported to the plant by army aircraft, so that oxygen can be transported on time.
Oxygen cannot be transported in any normal tanker. For this, there is a special type of tanker, which is lacking. Many nitrogen-supplying tankers have also been converted into oxygen-supplying tankers. There is also a lack of oxygen in Uttar Pradesh. To deal with this, the Yogi government has started the exercise of setting up an oxygen plant. The government has given permission to set up an oxygen plant in Sector 39 of Noida.
