According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, a total of 427.363 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been estimated to be procured during the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2021-22. This is 9.56 percent more than the previous year. This year 427.363 lakh metric tonnes of wheat is estimated to be procured. This time too, in its purchase, Madhya Pradesh has shown intention to leave Punjab behind by taking more quota than Punjab.
Farmers in all the states have had to register on the online portal to sell their produce this time. After the sale, online payment has been arranged in the account of the farmers. This year, wheat will be purchased at minimum support price (MSP) from farmers in 12 states. These include Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. However, there will be no purchase in Bihar from April 1.
Purchase target and arrangement in UP
Uttar Pradesh government, which contributes about 35 percent in wheat production, has set a target of purchasing 55 lakh metric tons this time. Last year was the same goal. But hardly 36 lakh tons were purchased. The purchase will be from April 1 to June 15. It has been told that 6000 procurement centers have been built here. Purchase centers will be built in tehsils, blocks, mandi campus centers and panchayat buildings etc. 3500 centers will be run by the State Cooperative Federation.
Haryana will also be procured from today
In Haryana, which produces 13.20 percent of the wheat, procurement is also starting from April 1. About one and a half thousand purchase centers can be built here. Here mustard along with wheat, sunflower, gram and barley will also be purchased on MSP. Here, barley crop will be purchased for the first time at the government rate. It has been claimed to send the money to the account of the farmers within 48 hours of the harvesting of Farm-J on the crop sale. Otherwise, the government will give 9 percent interest to those farmers.
Purchase arrangement in Madhya Pradesh
The Shivraj Singh government has set a target of purchasing a record 135 lakh metric tonnes of wheat this year. There are 4,529 procurement centers in the state. Madhya Pradesh was number one in the Rabi marketing season 2020-21 with 129.42 metric tonnes of wheat procured. 15,94,383 farmers had benefited from this. This time around 20 lakh farmers are expected to benefit. Here gram, mustard, lentil and wheat crops will also be purchased at the minimum support price.
How is Punjab and Rajasthan
Both these states are also major wheat producers. Rajasthan is number one in mustard production and procurement. Punjab has set a target of purchasing 130 lakh metric tonnes of wheat this year. While Rajasthan has set a target of 2.2 million metric tons. Except in Kota division, there will be purchases from April 1 to June 30 in other areas. On the other hand, Punjab will be procured from April 10 to May 31.
