Giving information on wheat export, Partha S Das, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Food said that requests for wheat have come from many countries. We will take a decision after considering that. However, the name of the countries requesting for wheat was not disclosed by the Joint Secretary.

Many countries have requested for export of wheat
Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said that in the current financial year (2022-23), India has exported three million tonnes of wheat. Also, the request of some countries for the supply of food grains is being considered. He said that the country has exported a total of 29.70 lakh tonnes of wheat in the current financial year till June 14. While giving information regarding exports, Partha S Das said that some quantity has been approved for some countries. 1.5 lakh tonnes of wheat has been exported to Bangladesh.
India has received requests for wheat from many Gulf countries including Indonesia. Although it has not been officially confirmed yet. Indonesia and Bangladesh procure maximum wheat from India. At the same time, India’s share in UAE’s wheat imports in recent years is large. There is a discussion that countries like Oman and Yemen have also requested India to export wheat to meet their domestic needs.
After banning wheat export, is the government preparing to ban flour export? In response to a question asked on this, Sundhashu Pandey said that the government is monitoring the situation. Necessary steps will be taken at the appropriate time. He said that 2.59 lakh tonnes of flour has been exported in the current financial year.
