What is written in the book of nursing on dowry which is a ruckus, know what is the whole matter

new Delhi : Dowry system is a social evil. You and I must have heard this sentence many times. Whenever there is mention of evils in the society from school to various programs, then there is a discussion of dowry system. It is often said that the bride is the dowry. That thing is different that it is only said. Now suddenly someone starts telling the benefits of dowry system, then what should it be called. Actually, for the last few days, a page of a book is becoming quite viral on social media. This page is from TK Indrani’s book ‘Textbook of Sociology for Nurses’. This book is for the students studying B.Sc Nursing.

What is in this chapter
The book’s chapter talks about the merits and benefits of the dowry system. It is said in the book that due to high dowry, even ugly girls get married. The items found in dowry like TV, fridge, fan, utensils, clothes and car help in settling the household. It further states that due to dowry, the spread of education among girls has increased. Due to the burden of dowry, people have started educating their daughters. When the girl is educated and employed, the demand for dowry will be less. So it is an indirect advantage. share in ancestral property. In the form of dowry, the girl gets a share in her ancestral property.

The matter reached the Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan
On social media, the controversy about the things written in this page, which counts the benefits of dowry, increased so much that from political parties to the National Commission for Women as well as Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan joined it. Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote a letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan with a tweet related to the excerpt of this book. Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted that I request Dharmendra Pradhan to remove such books from circulation. Priyanka further wrote that a book detailing the benefits of dowry can actually be present in our curriculum, it is a shame to the country and its constitution.

If the dispute escalates, the Nursing Council’s clarification
It is clearly written on the cover of the book that the book is as per INC syllabus. In such a situation, when the controversy escalated in this matter, a clarification was issued by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has condemned the use of the name of a publisher and an author for the sale of a book containing derogatory material. On behalf of the INC, it was said that Section 16 of the INC Act empowers the Council to determine the standards and syllables for the training of nurses, midwives and health visitors. As a policy, INC only sets the curriculum and does not endorse any author or publisher.

Women’s commission said take action on this
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has asked Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to take action against a book that tells the “merits and benefits” of the dowry system for nursing students. The Women’s Commission said that the chapter of the book is giving a very wrong message to the students about the present menace of dowry. Commission chairperson Rekha Sharma wrote a letter to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as well as Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan asking them to initiate action in this matter. The Delhi Commission for Women has also written a letter to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, demanding strict action against the author for ‘glorifying the dowry system’.
