The arrested smugglers and the seized silver jewelery have been handed over to Custom Office Tentulia for further legal proceedings.
In a statement issued by the BSF, it has been told that the personnel of Border Outpost Gobardha, 153rd Corps, Sector Kolkata were on their routine duty with promptness along the International Border. Meanwhile, at around 1155 o’clock, the soldiers noticed the suspicious movement of a person. The person was going from Gobardha Bazar towards Mandalpara village (border village). When the soldiers tried to stop this person for search, the person started trying to run away from the spot, but the soldiers caught him. When BSF personnel searched him, three packets were recovered from the upper part of the right leg of this man. Which was tightly tied with brown plastic tape, from inside which 7.480 kg of silver jewelery was recovered. The soldiers confiscated all the three packets and also took the smuggler into custody for questioning.
Smuggler arrested with silver jewelery
During interrogation, the arrested smuggler Subal Mandal told that he has been working as a smuggler carrier for the last six months. On 5th March, he had taken all these 03 packets of silver jewelery from a smuggler named Samresh Mandal (Village- Kaijuri, Thana- Swarupnagar) in Kaijuri market, which after crossing the BSF duty line, Bangladeshi smuggler Rehman Molla (Village-Kalyani, District – Satkhira, Bangladesh). He told that another smuggler named Uday Mandal was also involved in this work, who was working as a line man (assistant) for him.
Big syndicate of gold and silver smuggling on the border busted
Smuggler Subal Mandal, who was detained during interrogation, told that Aditya Tarafdar (45), Jastiram Mandal (43), Boliya Mandal (44) Lakhan Mandal (45) are involved in smuggling of gold and silver in this area. All these villages are residents of Kaijuri and Gobardha, Police Station- Swaroopnagar. These main smugglers along with other small smugglers are working as a big syndicate.
