In the by-election for the Salt Assembly seat of Uttarakhand, BJP candidate Mahesh Jina won and retained the seat of the ruling party. This was the first election in the state after Tirath Singh Rawat became the Chief Minister. Jeena defeated his nearest rival, Ganga Pancholi of Congress, by 4,697 votes in the Salt Assembly seat of Almora district.
