Before independence, certain people had rights in elections.
Democracy (DemocracyThere is a lot of importance of elections in this, whose right we got after independence. But if we go through the pre-independence elections (ElectionTalking about ) then in the elections of that time, not everyone had the right to vote. Rather, certain people who used to pay taxes to the East India Company, only such landlords and moneylenders had the right to vote. Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh (GhazipurA historian of Dildarnagar has shown some documents related to it. The voter list from 1904 to 1945 and the pamphlets to be disseminated at that time are also present in Hindi and Urdu. The names of 26 people who used to be well-known people of the area are mentioned in the voter list of 1945 Central Assembly elections.
After the constitution of the country came into force from 1950, elections started from 1952, in which everyone was given the right to vote under democracy. But before that, that is, before independence, about how elections were held, Kunwar Naseem Raza, curator of Al Dindar Shamsi Academy and Research Center in Dildar Nagar, told that they have different voter lists from 1904 to 1945. These lists are also in Hindi and Urdu. These voter lists before independence show how voters used to be at that time and who had the right to vote.
50 people were included in the list
Naseem tells that the records available with him are from the elections held in Zamania Pargana. After 1857, the local self-government policy was passed by the British, which became fully implemented in 1884. The Election Act was passed in 1909, after which the elections started. At that time there were names of 50 people in the voter list, in which people from both Hindu and Muslim communities are included in the voter list. A voter list in which 19 out of 50 are Hindus and all the rest are Muslims, while the voter list of 1945 which is in the name of Central Legislative Assembly is full of Muslims.
Only 50 people were candidates
If we talk about Zamania Assembly, elections are being held here since 1952. After that, in 1967, the Zamania Legislative Assembly was divided into two parts, in which Zamania and Dildar Nagar Vidhan Sabha were formed. Then in 2012, the two were merged, which currently comprises lakhs of voters. In such a situation, if we talk about history, that is, about 120 years ago, then only 50 people were entitled to vote. This included the head of the area, landlords, big moneylenders, big tenants, that is, those who used to collect rent in the form of tax at that time were included. The people included in this list used to be voters and they used to contest elections from among those people and work for the development of the area by winning elections from among those people.
At that time there was a voter list of 50 people. Only 4 of them used to contest elections, in which there used to be a local board and a district board. There were 4 candidates and 46 voters and winning one of these people became the head of the local board.
