Voting took place in 20 districts on Monday under the third phase of the three-tier panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh. Voting was held from 7 am to 6 pm. Till 5 pm, an average of 62.35 percent polling was held in all districts. The highest voter turnout in Meerut was 69.30 percent. The decision to contest more than 2.72 lakh candidates in 20 districts was captured in the voting box. There are 3,05,71,613 voters in 49,789 polling stations in these districts.
In the third phase of panchayat elections, 73,663 candidates have been elected unopposed. In the third phase, there were 2.14 lakh seats in the posts of Zilla Panchayat member, Kshetra Panchayat member, Gram Pradhan and Gram Sabha member. At Firozabad, there were reports of firing during the voting. Police and Presiding Officer’s car was also broken.
Violence in Fatehpur-Pilibhit
Whereas during the polling in village Ahinda of Chiulha area in Fatehpur, water was poured in the polling box and stones were thrown outside the polling station. Police arrested many people here. At the Alampur booth at the same time, the grainees made allegations of wrongdoing in the voter list and put ink in the ballot box.
In Pilibhit, a villager was killed in the action taken by the police. During the duty in the third phase, a Home Guard in Firozabad and an employee of the Education Department were killed in Amethi. Home Guard Ravindra Singh’s health deteriorated while doing duty in Jamalipur village of Shikohabad police station area of Firozabad. He died after this. At the same time, polling officer died in Amethi’s Singhpur. The officer has died even before the voting began. The cause of death is not yet known.
Better order instructions
Manoj Kumar, Commissioner of the State Election Commission, had instructed all the officials associated with the election, including the district election officers of all the respective districts, to make better arrangements to avoid repolling at any polling station. According to the information received from the Commission, in the third phase, 10,416 candidates for 746 seats of Zilla Panchayat member, 88584 candidates for 18,530 seats of Kshetra Panchayat member, 1,16,162 candidates for 14,379 seats of Gram Pradhan and 57,649 in 1,80,473 seats of Gram Panchayat ward. The candidates were in the fray.
These candidates were contesting on the symbol given by the State Election Commission. According to the Commission, in the third phase six candidates of Zilla Panchayat member, 371 of Kshetra Panchayat member, 55 of Gram Pradhan and 73,231 of Gram Panchayat member have been elected unopposed. In this way, a total of 73,663 candidates have been elected unopposed for various posts in 20 districts in the third phase.
