Voting for the panchayat elections in the state took place in four phases last month. During this time, votes were cast on 15, 19, 26 and 29 April and the counting of votes started on 2 May. During this time, more than 8,69,000 seats have been elected. These include more than seven lakh 32 thousand seats of Gram Panchayat ward member, 58,176 seats of Gram Pradhans, 75,852 seats of Kshetra Panchayat members and 3,050 seats of Zilla Panchayat member. In these elections, more than 12 lakh 89 thousand candidates tried their luck.
Meanwhile, BJP, SP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and various other parties have claimed their landslide victory in the panchayat elections.
Samajwadi Party spokesperson Anurag Bhadoria claimed, ‘The candidates supported by his party have won more than 800 seats of Zilla Panchayat member. Even in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gorakhpur, the work place of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the BJP has tasted defeat. The same fate of BJP has happened in the capital Lucknow. SP has also done well in Ayodhya.
State BJP President Swatantra Dev Singh said that his party’s supported candidates contested more than three thousand seats of Zilla Panchayat member and won most of them. Opposition claims of BJP’s defeat in panchayat elections are baseless.
When asked about his earlier claim of winning 918 seats of the District Panchayat member, Singh said that nothing can be said right now, maybe there will be some shortage in it.
On the other hand, the Congress termed its performance in the panchayat elections as satisfactory, claiming that 270 candidates supported by it had won the election of the District Panchayat member.
State Congress President Ajay Kumar Lallu claimed on Wednesday, ‘270 party-backed candidates have won the election of Zilla Panchayat member. At the same time, its candidates finished second in 571 seats and third in 711 seats. Apart from this, a large number of Congress-backed candidates have won the seats of Kshetra Panchayat member, Gram Pradhan and Gram Panchayat member.
Meanwhile, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, enthused by the success achieved in the panchayat elections, claimed on Wednesday that it has surpassed the Congress in the state with this success.
AAP’s Rajya Sabha member and spokesperson Sanjay Singh said that his party has gone ahead of the Congress in the state by winning 88 Zilla Panchayat members, 300 Gram Pradhans and 232 Gram Panchayat members.
He claimed that AAP has become the fourth party in Uttar Pradesh after BJP, SP and BSP. The vote bank of the Congress is continuously joining the Aam Aadmi Party.
Significantly, in the three-tier panchayat elections, all the candidates had fielded on the personal election symbol given by the Election Commission instead of the mark of the party supporting themselves.
