In the 2007 and 2012 assembly elections, Brahma Shankar Tripathi retained his victory. In the 2017 elections, Rajinikanth Mani Tripathi won on BJP ticket by getting 97132 votes. He defeated Rajesh Pratap Rao of Bahujan Samaj Party. There are total 324165 voters in Kushinagar, out of which 179372 are male voters 144779.
