BJP targeted Congress.
The Congress announced on Tuesday that its party would field women candidates on 40 percent of the seats in the upcoming assembly elections in the state. After which now the opposition parties have become attackers on the Congress. BSP President Mayawati and BJP MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi targeted the Congress over this decision.
Mayawati also said in a series of tweets that if the Congress wanted to give fair participation to women, then why did it not enact a law to give 33 percent reservation to women in Parliament and assemblies during its reign. The former Chief Minister said, “When Congress is in power and having good days, it does not remember Dalits, backwards and women etc. Women are missed. Congress’s announcement of giving 40 percent ticket to him is pure election drama.”
Why didn’t Congress make law: Mayawati
He said, “If the concern of the Congress towards women was so genuine and sincere, then why did its government at the Center not enact a law to give 33 percent reservation to women in Parliament and Legislative Assemblies? It is the nature of Congress to say something and do something, which raises a question mark on its intention and policy.
Rita Bahuguna Joshi dubbed ‘Shoshebaazi’
On the other hand, BJP MP and former senior Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi has termed the announcement of the Congress to field women candidates in 40 percent seats in the upcoming assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh as mere ‘showcase’. Joshi told the media that in the last several assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the Congress gave tickets to only 10-12 percent women. Congress’s announcement of giving tickets to women in 40 percent seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections is just ‘show-baazi’.
He said, “Women who have contributed a lot for the Congress. He could not even stop them. You see, how I was treated when I gave almost 18 years of my life to the Congress with selflessness. When I was put on the post, I worked so hard but I was also humiliated. Women like us are politically exploited in Congress.
