Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Narendra ModiUnder the leadership of ) the government is working on promotion of agriculture through various schemes and programs, which is changing the situation in the agriculture sector. Also the income of farmers (Farmers Income) Increasing. During the last 8 years, unprecedented work has been done in the agriculture sector in the country. While making agriculture sustainable, the existing challenges are being addressed on priority. The Agriculture Minister said these things while virtual inaugurating the national seminar organized at Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour.

Facilities are being made available in the agriculture sector with special packages of more than 1.5 lakh crore rupees including one lakh crore Agriculture Infrastructure Fund. It is the result of the farmer friendly policies of the government and the hard work of farmers and scientists that today India is a prosperous nation in terms of agricultural products and India has supplied food grains to other countries even in adverse times. Today, India is in the first or second place in the world in terms of production of most of the agricultural products, whereas agricultural products worth 4.5 lakh crores have been exported from the country, which is a record in itself.
‘Need to save water and increase productivity’
The Union Agriculture Minister said that today, to make maximum use of technology in agriculture, attracting farmers towards costly crops, reducing the cost of farming, providing farmers with reasonable prices for their produce, reducing dependence on fertilizers, towards soil health. There is a need to work with a view to save electricity and water in irrigation and increase productivity. The Government of India is working closely with the State Governments in this regard. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is also working at a fast pace, along with all the universities of agriculture. And other institutes are also doing excellent work.
He said that Bihar is an agricultural state, where about 70 percent of the population is engaged in agriculture. Bihar is also excellent from the point of view of agricultural productivity, while many crop varieties have been invented here, due to which the state is not only getting returns, but it is also contributing to the agricultural growth of the country. Describing the management of nutrients as the need of the hour, he said that such a seminar would definitely be beneficial in this regard. More than 250 scientists, researchers and teachers have participated in this two-day seminar. A report on the findings of the seminar will be prepared and given to the Central and State Governments and on the basis of the facts of the report, appropriate steps will be taken to give further impetus to the initiatives being taken by the University towards sustainable agriculture.
