The United Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Thursday said it would hold a meeting on October 8 to discuss the next course of action on the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. In which four farmers were killed. The SKM, which is spearheading the farmers’ agitation against the Centre’s agricultural laws, also said that it is waiting for the arrest of Ashish Mehra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra.

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday arrested two persons in connection with the October 3 violence in Lakhimpur Kheri district. According to a notice, Ashish Mehra has been asked to come to the police lines at 10 am on Friday. The SKM on Wednesday warned the Center and the Uttar Pradesh government that it would launch a “big program” if the demands for the removal of Minister of State Ajay Mishra and his son’s arrest were not met.

‘Anti Ardas’ of dead farmers on October 12

The SKM said in its statement on Thursday that on October 12, ‘Anti Ardas’ will be done for the dead farmers. He said that he is still waiting for the arrest of Ashish Mishra and his associates. The farmers’ group also condemned the statement of Uttar Pradesh minister Baldev Singh Aulakh that the Lakhimpur Kheri incident was an “accident” and demanded its withdrawal.

Eight people were killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. Four of them were farmers, who allegedly rammed their vehicles into an event organized in the area by BJP workers on their way to welcome Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. The other four included two BJP workers, Central A driver of Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra and Raman Kashyap, a journalist working for a private TV channel, were involved. Farmers present at the spot claimed that Ashish Mishra was in a vehicle. However, Ashish’s address Ajay Mishra had denied this and said that he could present evidence that his son was at another place at that time.
