This time Uttar Pradesh (Uttar PradeshDue to the lack of suitable weather in the mango belt, the production of ‘King of Fruits’ has decreased by about 70 percent, as a result this time the pockets will have to be looser than ever before to eat mangoes. This time due to unforeseen heat at the time of mango blossom (flowers) i.e. February and March, the proper development of the blossom could not take place. As a result, there is a possibility of a sharp decline in the production of mango this time. Mango Growers Association of India President Insram Ali told on Sunday that the production of mangoes in Uttar Pradesh used to range from 35 to 45 lakh metric tonnes every year, but this time the production is not expected to exceed 10-12 lakh metric tonnes. So this time mangoes will be sold at a very high price in the market and people will have to spend more money to eat mangoes.
He told that every year in the month of February and March, mango trees get blossom which requires maximum temperature of 30 to 35 degree Celsius to develop, but this time the temperature reached 40 degree Celsius in March itself. Due to this the mango flowers got scorched and the crop suffered heavy damage. Thousands of mango growing farmers of Uttar Pradesh’s mango belt have suffered a setback due to the destruction of mango crop due to the nature’s attack.
Double blow for exporters
According to meteorologists, last March was the hottest month of March in the last 122 years. Apart from this, the month of April was also recorded as the hottest April month of the last 50 years. Insram Ali said that the mangoes of Uttar Pradesh have been exported every year to many countries including Saudi Arabia, America, Britain and Germany, but this time the export will not be able to meet the domestic consumption. Due to this the business of mango exporters will be completely destroyed.
He said that this is a double blow for the mango exporters, as mangoes could not be exported for almost two years due to the shutdown of international transport during the COVID-19 epidemic. Now in view of the lessening of the outbreak of the epidemic, the exporters were hopeful that this time they would make good profits by exporting mangoes, but the crop failure has dented their hopes.
