How much can a plate (dish) cost? Hundred, two hundred, thousand or more. But you will be surprised to know that a dish in Scotland has been sold for US $ 1.7 million i.e. about 13 crore rupees in Indian currency. Now you must be thinking that what was the special thing in this plate, which people looted their treasure to buy. So let’s know about this special dish.

According to media reports, British auctioneer Lyon & Turnbull told that the firm’s European ceramics experts were conducting some investigation at a Lowwood house on the Scottish border. In the meantime, he found a 16th century plate from a drawer there. On which due to being a special thing, it was bid so much. The plate was one of 400 items found at Lowwood House that were auctioned. But no one had any idea that people would bid so much for this plate.

Let us tell you that a scene was made on this 500-year-old and 27 cm diameter plate, which shows a scene from the biblical story of Samson and Delilah. According to the report, it was built by the potter and artist Nicolada Urbino around 1520-23. This plate made of Italian clay is known as Maiolica.

The Myolica was initially expected to sell between $ 1 lakh 9 thousand to $ 1 lakh 63 thousand, but its price was many times higher than expected. When it was auctioned on Wednesday, people bid a record 1,721,000 US dollars (Rs 12,96,01,626 in Indian currency). Significantly, this bid is 10 times its original estimate. Gavin Strange, managing director of Lyon & Turnbull, says that we had no idea that this plate would get so much bid. But when the hammer was down at such a high price, the view there was worth seeing.
