Haryana government has approved the implementation of Mukhyamantri Bagwani Bima Yojana to compensate horticulture farmers for the damages caused to horticulture crops due to bad weather and natural calamities. A total of 21 vegetables, fruits and spice crops will be covered under this scheme. This scheme will work to save the farmers from the risk of natural calamities.
Giving this information on Tuesday, a government spokesperson said that this scheme has been prepared as Horticulture Crop Assurance Scheme. Its purpose is to encourage farmers to cultivate high-risk horticultural crops. Horticulture farmers have to bear huge financial losses due to various factors. These include sudden disease outbreaks in crops, biological factors like insect infestation and natural factors like unseasonal rain, hailstorm, drought, frost, extreme temperature.

State government spokesperson said that under the scheme, farmers would get an insurance amount of Rs 30,000 for vegetable and spice crops and Rs 40,000 for fruit crops. For vegetable and spice crops, only 2.5 percent i.e. Rs 750 will have to be paid and for fruit crops only Rs 1000 will have to be paid. The survey for compensation and four categories of damages will be 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent.
This plan will be optional
The spokesman said that farmers will have to opt for this scheme while registering their crop and area on Meri Fasal Mera Byora Portal. Season wise crop registration period will be fixed and notified from time to time. This scheme will be implemented on individual sector i.e. crop loss will be assessed at individual field level.
Budget provision will also be made for this by the state government and under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, state and district level committees will monitor, review and resolve disputes at the state and district level. Here, Bhavantar Bharpayee Yojana is also being run to compensate the farmers for not getting good price for the crops. But for this also farmers will have to get registered on Meri Fasal Mera Byora Portal.
