Russia’s foreign minister’s visit to Pakistan is considered an extraordinary development.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit India on 5-6 April. He will be in Pakistan for two days on this two-day visit. Lavrov’s departure to Pakistan is not an auspicious sign for India in the eyes of strategists. Lavrov will arrive in Pakistan at a time when defense relations between India and Russia have reached number two. America has taken the place of Russia and this thing is knocking Russia itself.

Increased strategic trust between the two countries

Lavrov will be in Pakistan on 6-7 April. His visit to Pakistan is considered to be an extraordinary development. Some people are apprehensive about his visit in India too. Russia and Pakistan have succeeded in developing strategic confidence in the last few years. Relations between Russia and Pakistan have been very close in the recent past. Military exercises are constantly being carried out between the two countries and work is going on continuously on some projects as well. However, many attempts have been made by Russia to assure India that its relations with Pakistan will not affect the security system of the country.

Russia’s Gas Pipeline Project

A statement has been made by Russia authorities that Lavrov will discuss counter terrorism with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi. While the distance between India and Russia is increasing on the one hand, Russia and Pakistan are getting closer. In November last year, Russia signed a new agreement with Pakistan on a gas pipeline. Under this agreement called North-South Gas Pipeline, Pakistan has been given 74 percent stake in Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline while Russia has 24 percent share. This agreement has been prepared afresh.

Putin said that partnership will be strong

With this agreement, Russian President Vladimir Putin hoped that the project would further strengthen his country’s economic and strategic partnership with Pakistan. Under this agreement, Pak companies will supply liquid natural gas through 1,122 km of high pressure pipeline. With this agreement, after decades, the steps of Russia are lying on the ground of Pakistan. Earlier Russia had helped Pakistan in Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDG) and Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM).

The Eurasian Economic Union is a coalition of Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, Russia is also ready to enter into an agreement with Pakistan which includes electricity and other energy projects in addition to the gas pipeline.

Russia will invest 14 billion dollars

In 2019, Russia announced an investment of $ 14 billion in Pakistan’s energy sector. Also, Afghanistan’s factor in keeping Russia and Pakistan together cannot be ignored.
