One such young farmer living in Giridih district of Jharkhand (Farmers) is Vikram Mahato, who instead of migrating for a job took up farming (Farming) and are earning lakhs of rupees today. Vikram explains that the lockdown implemented in the country (Lockdown) proved to be the turning point for his life, as this was the time when he came back to his home and his inclination towards farming increased. Before starting farming, Vikram used to do electricity wiring work outside the state and in other districts of Jharkhand, as well as work in towers. It had been about 10 years while doing this work, but he was not able to make any special progress in life. Meanwhile, a lockdown was implemented in the country to prevent the spread of corona. When he went to the unemployed in lockdown, he started farming on the advice of his brother-in-law. His brother-in-law lives in a village in Ormanjhi block of Ranchi and is a successful farmer. Along with giving advice on farming, he also gave tips to Vikram to earn better in agriculture.

On the advice of brother-in-law, Vikram first took two acres of land on lease and started farming. Once he cultivated watermelon in two acres, but he suffered damage in it. Because the crop got destroyed due to hail and rain. Due to this he did not benefit, but still he did not lose courage and planted cauliflower. But due to the rain, its cultivation was also ruined and they suffered loss. However, being a young farmer, Vikram knew that there is benefit in the cultivation of vegetables, so once again he gathered courage and cultivated cucumber along with beans. This time he benefited and earned Rs 20,000. Then he took four more acres of land on lease and cultivated watermelon in the entire six acres.

This time Vikram got a lot of benefit from watermelon cultivation. He earned three lakh rupees. Vikram tells that there was a problem in selling the vegetables grown in the field outside, so he has bought a goods train. Vikram said that he has been doing organic farming since the beginning as the quality of vegetables remains the same. He said that they find it very difficult to irrigate. However, he has installed deep irrigation in the entire six acres of land. He said that if he had got a solar based pump for irrigation, he would have got a lot of relief and would have been able to do farming in a better way.
