Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said that the state government will start the Rabi season (Rabi Season) will purchase paddy grown in This decision was taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by CM KCR in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The Chief Minister also announced the formation of a four-member committee to assess the expenditure on paddy procurement. It is expected that after this decision of the government, paddy harvesting in the state (Paddy Harvesting) will start.

Normally, during Rabi season, 55 lakh acres of paddy are planted in Telangana.
additional burden on the state treasury
It has been decided to constitute a committee on behalf of the state government to assess the expenditure on paddy procurement. Agriculture, Irrigation and Finance secretaries will also be included in this committee formed under the leadership of Chief Secretary of Telangana. It is estimated that due to the procurement work, there will be an additional burden of 2000 to 2500 crore rupees on the state exchequer.
On Monday itself, Chief Minister KCR demonstrated in Delhi against the central government’s purchase of paddy. He had demanded that the Center procure the total paddy grown in the Rabi season. He gave 24 hours to the Narendra Modi government to respond to his demand. On the same day, Union Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey had said that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) cannot procure that rice due to limited demand and surplus storage at ration shops. He also said that Telangana was already informed in this regard.
Adequate reserves with FCI
Pandey had said that the Center does not purchase paddy from any state. It only procures raw rice and sela rice in very small quantities as per the demand of PDS. He had said, “In a meeting of the Food Secretaries in August last year, it was decided that in view of the increasing Usna rice stock with the FCI, it was decided that the Central Pool during Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2021-22 will not be accepted from any State. No one will take that rice. As of April 1, 2022, FCI had reserves of about 4 million tonnes of Usna rice, which could be enough for almost two years’ requirement.
