What is Svamitva Scheme: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with the beneficiaries of Swamitva (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) scheme in Madhya Pradesh through video conferencing today. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), he will also distribute e-property cards to 1,71,000 beneficiaries under the scheme on this occasion. The purpose of this scheme is to give ownership rights to the people of their residential land in the villages of the country. Let us know what is the ownership plan and what are its benefits.

What is ownership plan?

Swamitva is Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas. This is a central scheme, whose objective is to record the rights of their houses to the people living in the villages and to issue property cards to the property owners. Under the scheme, all rural areas will be surveyed using drones. With this, GIS based maps will be prepared for every village. According to the official website of the scheme, it was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 24 on National Panchayati Raj Day across the country. The scheme was launched after the pilot phase was Jura in 9 states. This scheme comes under the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.

What is the advantage of proprietary property card?

People living in rural areas of the country get many benefits from this scheme. According to the official website of this scheme, it maintains correct land records for rural planning and helps in reducing property disputes. Apart from this, citizens who have got a proprietary property card in rural areas can use it as a financial asset for taking loans and other financial benefits. With this, this scheme also helps in giving them financial stability. Apart from this, it also helps in ascertaining the property tax, which is to be levied by the Gram Panchayats and it is increasing over time.

With this, the scheme will create survey infrastructure and GIS maps, which can be used by any department for its own use. Using GIS maps will also help in preparing better Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP). Apart from this, the cards will help in increasing the liquidity of the land parcel. And the financial credit available to the villages will increase.

Under this scheme, all property records and maps will be available with the gram panchayat, which will help in taxation, construction permits, removal of encroachments, etc. in villages.
