Scientists of Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) Pusa have advised the farmers doing paddy farming to take some precautions, so that there is no loss in the last days of the crop. Keeping in view the weather, farmers are advised to stop irrigation two weeks before the harvest of the ripening paddy crop. After harvesting, dry the crop in the field for 2-3 days and thresh it. After that dry the grains thoroughly in the sun. Before putting the grain in storage, clean the storage house thoroughly.
The scientists of Pusa have advised the farmers not to burn the remaining residue of Kharif crops especially paddy i.e. stubble. Because this causes more pollution in the environment, which increases the chances of health-related diseases. Due to the mist generated by this, the sun’s rays reach less to the crops. Due to which the process of photosynthesis and transpiration in crops is affected. Due to which there is a decrease in the production of food, due to which the productivity and quality of the crops are affected.

Farmers are advised to mix the remaining paddy residue (parali) in the ground. This increases the fertility of the soil. Along with this, it also acts as a mulch. Due to which the transpiration of moisture from the soil is reduced. Moisture is conserved in the soil. Pusa Decomposer Capsule can be used to decompose paddy residue. Use 4 capsules per hectare.
Advice for Basmati Paddy Cultivators
Dr. Ritesh Sharma, Principal Scientist of Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF), says that at this time Pusa Basmati 1509 is ready. Harvesting is taking place. Whereas late variety Basmati paddy still has 20-25 days to grow.
These include Pusa Basmati 1121, Pusa Basmati-1, Pusa Basmati-6, Pusa Basmati-1637, Pusa Basmati-1718, CSR-30 and Tarawadi Basmati etc. Sharma says that stop irrigation a week before their harvesting. Do not keep water filled in the field. Keep the ground wet or else the hopper gets attacked even at the last minute.
