Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi (PTI)
Congress President Sonia Gandhi fiercely attacked the Central Government in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting. Sonia Gandhi targeted the Narendra Modi-led central government on the issues of farmers’ movement, Lakhimpur Khiri violence, inflation, foreign policy and China’s aggression.
Sonia condemned the killing of several minorities in Jammu and Kashmir in the past and said that it is the responsibility of the Center to bring the culprits to justice and restore peace and harmony in this union territory. Referring to the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, Sonia said that it shows the thinking of the BJP about the farmers’ movement. The Congress President claimed that the ‘three black laws’ that the BJP government has got passed by the Parliament are going to benefit some industrialists.
Government’s agenda, ‘Sell, Sell and Sell’: Sonia
The Congress President targeted the government over the state of the economy and said that this government knows only one way to bring the economy back on track and that is to sell the national assets which have taken decades to build. Sonia alleged, ‘Modi government’s one-point agenda is ‘Sell, Sell and Sell’… No one in the country had imagined that the price of petrol is Rs 100 per liter, the price of gas cylinder is Rs 900 and that of cooking oil. The price will go beyond Rs 200. This is putting an unbearable burden on the lives of the people.
Center surrounded on China issue
According to Sonia, the central government changed the vaccination policy after the demand of the state governments and cooperative federalism is still only a slogan for the BJP government. Targeting the government over the issue of foreign policy, Sonia said, “There has always been a broad consensus on foreign policy in the country. But the Modi government did not try to take the opposition along in a meaningful way, which has weakened this consensus.
Referring to China’s aggression on the border, Sonia said, “The Prime Minister told the opposition leaders last year that China has not occupied our borders and the country is paying the price for the silence they have maintained since then.” .’ He alleged that for this government, foreign policy has become a tool for creating electoral atmosphere and polarization.
