Small jewelers may have trouble
It is being said that the jewelery sector is very upset with this rule of the government. Due to this rule, those jewelers who are in small towns or villages may face a lot of problems. Earlier it was made mandatory from 1st June. But on behalf of the Jewelers Association, the government was told that the kind of infrastructure needed to implement this rule is not there yet. Many jewelers are doing hallmarking work even in big cities. But that is not enough. Therefore, representatives of BIS along with Gems and Jewelery Council are going to meet Piyush Goyal today.
Jewelers are troubled by this rule
It is believed that small jewelers can get relief from hallmarking. Under the rule of UID which has been brought by the government, the jewelery design will have to be uploaded on the website. Jewelers are worried that their unique design may be stolen and this design may go public. Some of these issues will be discussed this evening and it is believed that this decision can be postponed for a few days and jewelers can get some relief.
what is hallmarking
Hallmarking is a way to certify the purity of gold, silver and platinum. Yes, if put in simple language, it is a means of providing credibility. The process of hallmarking is done at the hallmarking centers present all over the country and it is monitored by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). If the jewelry is hallmarked, it means that its purity is certified. The hallmark of BIS is a means to certify the purity of silver along with gold. This BIS mark certifies that the jewel meets the standard of Bureau of Indian Standards.
Why hallmarking is necessary
Therefore, before buying gold, make sure that the jewelery has the BIS hallmark. If there is a hallmark on gold jewelry, it means that its purity is certified. Many jewelers apply hallmarks without completing the investigation process. In such a situation, it is important to see whether the hallmark is original or not. The original hallmark bears the triangular mark of the Bureau of Indian Standards. The purity of gold is also written on it along with the logo of the hallmarking center. It also has the year of jewelery manufacture and the logo of the manufacturer.
