In the current Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2021-22, government procurement of wheat from farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP) is going on. This year the government has made record purchases and it is 13 percent more than last year. 48.20 lakh farmers have been benefited by the government procurement of wheat and about Rs 85 thousand crore has been sent directly to their bank accounts under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme.
According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the work of procurement of wheat is going on smoothly. So far 428.77 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured. This is the highest ever level in wheat procurement. In the last RMS 2020-21, 389.92 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was procured, which was a record. But this time the figure has gone a long way. In the same period last year, 379.68 lakh metric tonnes of wheat was procured.
About 48.20 lakh farmers have been benefited from the procurement operations at MSP prices in the current Rabi marketing season and a payment of Rs.84,682.65 crore has been made to them.
Paddy procurement is also going on in the current Kharif season 2020-21. So far more than 835.18 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been procured (this includes 707.67 lakh metric tonnes of Kharif crop and 127.51 lakh metric tonnes of Rabi crop), as compared to 745.78 lakh metric tonnes of paddy in the same period last year. Was purchased.
Paddy procurement also at the highest level ever
In the current Kharif marketing season, about 123.44 lakh farmers have already been benefitted from the procurement work by paying Rs 1,57,681.77 crore on MSP price. Paddy procurement has also reached an all-time high and has crossed the previous high of 773.45 lakh metric tonnes of Kharif marketing season 2019-20.
So far, 8,45,426.71 MT of Moong, Urad, Tuar, Chana, Lentil, Groundnut Pods, Mustard Seeds and Soyabean have been procured by the Government through its Nodal Agencies at MSP prices under Kharif 2020-21 and Rabi 2021 is. 4,409.67 crore has been generated from this purchase to 5,03,432 farmers of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana and Rajasthan.
Similarly, during the crop season 2020-21, 5,089 metric tonnes of copra (perennial crop) have been procured from the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. For this, Rs 52 crore 40 lakh has been paid on the minimum support price, benefiting 3,961 farmers. Approval has been given to procure 51000 metric tonnes of copra from Tamil Nadu for the marketing season 2021-22, for which the procurement work will be started from the date fixed by the state government.
