Snowfall Update: The Western Himalayas have recently experienced scattered light to moderate rain and snowfall due to a passing Western disturbance. As a result of the cold northern winds that followed, temperatures have dropped across Northwest India, including Delhi and the National Capital Region. However, the snow show is not over yet as another Western disturbance is approaching.

Snowfall to reach its peak today
This system is currently located over North Pakistan and the surrounding areas and is expected to bring more significant precipitation, including widespread snowfall and heavy rain, to areas such as Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and parts of Jammu Kashmir starting January 28th. Intensity and spread of rain and snow will peak from today i.e. January 29th and may continue until January 30th. This could lead to disruptions in transportation, power outages and other inconveniences for the local population.
As the upcoming Western Disturbance makes its way in, residents of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand should brace for moderate to heavy snowfall between January 29th and 30th. This snowfall is likely to cause traffic disruptions and road closures in affected areas, which may impede travel and cause inconvenience for people.

Natives brace for major change
Many areas may see significant accumulation of snow, which can cause power outages and infrastructure damage. Furthermore, the heavy snowfall may also lead to an increased risk of avalanches and landslides in the mountainous regions, which can be life-threatening for those in the affected areas. Unfortunately, there are no signs of another Western Disturbance approaching the Western Himalayas until the first week of February, so it’s important to take necessary precautions and stay updated on the weather forecast.
After this current disturbance has passed, cold winds from the Western Himalayas will once again blow across the northwest and central parts of the country, leading to a significant drop in temperatures and isolated pockets of cold wave in Rajasthan and Haryana. This can be dangerous for people who are not prepared for cold weather and can lead to health problems like hypothermia. People should take necessary steps to protect themselves and stay warm during this time.
