Earlier on June 2, the clinical trial on children started at Patna AIIMS. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) approved the trial of Covaxin on children aged 2-18 years on 12 May.

The vaccine will be given to children through the muscle (intramuscularly). Dr Sanjay Rai, Professor, Center for Community Medicine, Delhi AIIMS said, “The children have been started for the trial of Covaxin. And only after the test report comes, the vaccine dose will be given to the children.
Dr. Sanjay Rai told in a conversation with NewsNCR that at present, the trial will be started on children between the age of 12 to 18 years. He said that 18 children have been selected so far. Out of which blood test of all the children is being taken. Along with this, corona test and some other tests will be done for these children, in which it will be seen whether the child is physically fit or not. If all the parameters are correct, then in one to two days they will be vaccinated.
Covaxin is being tried on children at three places in the country. Parita, who studied in Mount Carmel, Delhi, had come to AIIMS with her father. Paritha is very excited about the vaccine. He told in a special conversation with NewsNCR that the vaccine is the only solution and it will save us from corona in the coming days.
‘Victory is beyond fear’

At the same time, Astika Gupta said that we have to do something for our country, this feeling motivates us to take the vaccine. There was a little fear, a little excitement.
Dr Sanjay Rai told that children will be given two types of doses. Viral load of 6 mg will be given in the first dose and after 28 days a viral load of 6 mg will be given again. After this, children will be tested for five months and an attempt will be made to find out how many antibodies have developed in their body.
The whole process is 9 months
It will take 9 months to complete the trial on children. There are two age limits for vaccination in children. For example, in the first phase, children between the ages of 12 and 18 will be vaccinated. After that, trials will be done on children of 6 to 11 years and after that there will be trials on children up to two years of age. This whole process is of 9 months.
Many special precautions are needed in the vaccination trial of children. Keeping this in mind, video recording of the entire process is being done. Consent letter is being taken from the children and their parents. Along with this, the number of the nursing staff is also being given, so that in case of any kind of problem, it can be contacted immediately.
Early results in 3 months
Rai told that although this whole process is of nine months, but if we look at the safety part and the result is good, then in the next three months the vaccine can come for emergency use. Although it is too early to say whether the children will need it or not, he said.
Currently, the vaccine is being administered only to people above 18 years of age. Regarding COVID-19 infection in children, VK Paul, member (health) of NITI Aayog had said that till now the corona virus has not taken a serious form in children, but if there is a change in the nature of the virus then its effect can increase in them.
