A sedition case has been filed against a 48-year-old female writer in Assam (Assam). Writer Shikha Sharma has been accused of allegedly posting objectionable posts on Facebook regarding the soldiers killed in the Naxalite attack in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. Guwahati Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta said, ‘A case has been registered against Sharma in various sections including section 124-A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code. Sharma will be produced in court tomorrow. The writer is very vocal on social media. He allegedly wrote on Facebook on Monday, ‘Salaried professionals who lose their lives while performing duty cannot be called martyrs. Based on this logic, if a worker working in the electricity department dies due to exposure to electricity, then he should also be given martyr status. The media should not play with the sentiments of the people.
