India’s position based on national interest
With several resolutions coming to the United Nations on the Ukraine crisis, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Tuesday said India will consider all proposals in their “integrity” and on the basis of national interest. At least two resolutions on the Ukraine crisis are to be brought to the UN Security Council while the other resolutions are to be brought to the UN General Assembly.
During the press conference, Shringla said, ‘We take a stand at the United Nations which is based on very careful considerations. We will consider them (the proposal) thoroughly and take a decision in our best interest.
The foreign secretary was responding to a question whether there would be any change in India’s position on the Ukraine crisis after an Indian student was killed in a shooting on Tuesday in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. Significantly, last week, India did not participate in the vote on a resolution in the UN Security Council, which sought to condemn Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
