Researchers said, fruits are better for health
A team of researchers from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bangalore has tested seven popular clones of dragon fruit grown in India. According to the news of India Science, five red and two white pulp fruits were included in these seven clones. Researchers found that dragon fruit with white flesh was better in terms of yield and sugar content than fruits with red flesh, while fruits with red flesh were found to be better in terms of fiber, phenolics and anti-oxidants.
Dragon fruit, rich in amino acids, contains elements such as histidine, lysine, methionine, and phenylalanine. Caffeic acid, ferulic acid, vitamin-C, vitamin K1, potassium and iron are also found in dragon fruit. Researchers say that both types of fruits are ideal for maintaining good health, as they are low in calories.
