901 policemen have been awarded Police Medal on the occasion of Republic Day. In this, 140 policemen were given police medals for gallantry. Apart from this, 93 policemen were awarded President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) and 668 for Meritorious Service (PM).
According to officials, the policemen who were awarded for their bravery. Of these, 80 were awarded for service in Left-wing affected areas and 45 in Jammu and Kashmir. Of these, 48 are from CRPF, 31 are from Maharashtra Police. Apart from this, 25 are from Jammu and Kashmir, nine from Jharkhand, seven from Delhi Police. Apart from this, there are other BSF and policemen from other states.
11 thousand soldiers honored with honorary rank
Apart from this, on the occasion of Republic Day, more than 11 thousand military personnel were awarded honorary ranks. Every year serving and retired personnel are awarded honorary ranks in recognition of their distinguished services to the military.
According to PIB, out of 140 policemen who are being given gallantry awards, 80 policemen come from Left Wing Extremism affected areas. Of these, 48 people come from the Central Reserve Police Force. At the same time, out of these 140 people, 31 policemen come from Maharashtra, 25 policemen from Jammu and Kashmir, 9 from Jharkhand, and the remaining 7 policemen come from other states/union territories.
On what basis is the award given?
Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) is awarded for saving life and property, preventing crime, arresting criminals. The President’s Police Medal for Very Distinguished Service is awarded for a distinguished record in the police service.
Apart from this, every year on the occasion of Republic Day, the President of India also awards the President’s Medal for the Fire Department and Home Guard personnel for their services and the Gallantry and Meritorious Service Medal for distinguished services to the deserving personnel every year.
