Rajasthan News: Rajasthan Police has arrested three individuals, including the husband, in connection with a distressing incident in Pratapgarh district. They are accused of publicly assaulting a woman, forcibly undressing her, and recording on camera. Seven other suspects related to the case have also been taken into custody. The victim, a 20-year-old woman who is four months pregnant, was subjected to this harrowing incident.
In-laws committed the crime
Kana Meena, the victim’s husband, along with two others named Nathu Meena and Veliya Meena, have been arrested in connection with the incident. The Rajasthan Police mentioned that these suspects sustained injuries during their arrest on Saturday. IG Banswara S Parimala said, “Three accused have been arrested and are undergoing treatment as they got injured while trying to run away from the police. More accused will be arrested soon.”
Reportedly occurring on August 31 at approximately 5 p.m., the incident involved the newlywed woman being subjected to physical abuse by her husband and in-laws. They accused her of eloping with a man from the neighbourhood. Shockingly, she was also forcibly stripped and allegedly paraded naked within the village by the accused. In response, the Pratapgarh police have urged the public not to share the video on social media platforms.
Ten individuals have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 294 (obscene act), 323 (causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 354 (assaulting women), 365 (kidnapping), 498 (detaining a married woman), 504 (insulting someone), and 506 (criminal intimidation). Additionally, they face charges under section 67 (transmitting obscene material) of the Information Technology Act.
CM Ashok Gehlot reacts
The incident gained public attention when a video of the incident went viral, leading to a swift response from the police. On Friday, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot became aware of the video and pledged to ensure strict action against both the accused individual and his family.
Taking to X, Gehlot wrote, “In Pratapgarh district, a video of a woman being stripped naked by her in-laws has surfaced in a family dispute between Pihar and her in-laws. The Director General of Police has been instructed to send ADG Crime on the spot and take strict action in this matter. There is no place for such criminals in a civilized society. These criminals will be put behind bars as soon as possible and punished after being prosecuted in a fast-track court.”
