Till September 2021-22, Railways has earned 240 crores from dynamic fare, 353 crores from Tatkal tickets and Rs 89 crores from premium Tatkal charges. There was no hindrance in the operation of trains in 2019-20 as the corona epidemic did not spread then.
Indian Railway
The Railways has earned a lot in the Corona epidemic. It has been found in an RTI that despite the normal services of trains being closed in COVID, the Railways has earned a lot. It has been found in the RTI that the Railways has earned Rs 403 crore in revenue from Tatkal ticket charges while premium Tatkal has earned Rs 119 crore. In the year 2020-21, the Railways has earned Rs 511 crore from Dynamic Fair. This earnings is from the period when most of the trains were closed due to COVID.
In Tatkal, Premium Tatkal and Dynamic fare, people book tickets when they have no other option. When people have to go somewhere in an emergency and do not get a ticket or do not have a confirmed ticket, then people take the help of Tatkal. Similarly, it happens in dynamic fair also. In dynamic fare, as the seat gets filled in the train, the fare for the rest of the seats increases. This premium is charged as the person traveling in an emergency has no other option, hence the ticket has to be purchased at a higher price.
where did the income come from
Chandrashekhar Gaur of Madhya Pradesh had asked a question to the Railways in this regard through an RTI. In response, the Railways said that till September 2021-22, Railways has earned Rs 240 crore from dynamic fare, Rs 353 crore from Tatkal tickets and Rs 89 crore from premium Tatkal charges. There was no hindrance in the operation of trains in 2019-20 as the corona epidemic did not spread then. During that period, Railways earned Rs 1,313 crore from dynamic fare, Rs 1,669 crore from Tatkal and Rs 603 crore from premium Tatkal tickets.
This figure has been released by the Ministry of Railways after a comment by the Parliamentary Committee. The Standing Committee of Parliament had said that it is unfair to charge the passengers for Tatkal tickets because in this adverse situation, economically weaker people travel more. In Corona, such people are forced to travel in emergency because they need to meet your relatives. This puts additional pressure on their financial condition. Such people have to pay more money even for short distance travel. The committee suggested that the fare should also be charged according to the distance.
How Tatkal fare is charged
Tatkal fare is charged according to the fare of the ticket and there is a special rule for this. 10% of the basic fare of second class ticket is charged as tatkal charge. Apart from the second class, all the other classes by the Railways, 30 percent of their basic fare is taken as tatkal charge. This has a slightly different Tatkal premium which was introduced in 2014. This system is only in few trains. 50% of Tatkal quota tickets are sold through dynamic fare system.
Half a crore people left waiting
In the first six months of the current financial year, there were 52 lakh passengers who were included in the waiting list, but their tickets could not be confirmed after the seat reservation. Such people were deprived of traveling because due to Corona, waiting passengers were prohibited from traveling. Till the month of September of this financial year, 52,96,741 passengers made bookings in which 32,50,039 tickets were automatically canceled as their status remained in waiting. Till the time the chart was prepared, so many tickets could not be confirmed and people were deprived of travel. Due to Corona, the Railways did not start any new train and made the old trains special only. The fare of these trains was slightly higher than normal. Now trains have been started in general class.(PTI)
