Railways has taken a big step to give way to goods trains laden with coal. Amidst the deepening power crisis in the country, the Railways has canceled 670 passenger trains for the next one month.

Railways canceled about 42 passenger trains on 29 April
Railways canceled 42 passenger trains till 29th of last month to increase coal freight movement in view of power crisis in various parts of the country. Due to this, people commuting from coal producing states like Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand are facing inconvenience. South East Central Railway (SECR) division having coal producing areas has canceled 34 passenger trains. The Northern Railway (NR), on the other hand, has canceled eight trains, which supply coal to several power plants in northern India. While South Central Railway has canceled 22 mail or express trains and 12 passenger trains, Northern Railway has canceled four mail or express trains and an equal number of passenger services.
