Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Tuesday hit out at the Badal family and accused them of “creating a mafia rule” in the state and former chief minister Amarinder Singh for providing them “safe haven”. Addressing a public meeting in Fazilka, Channi alleged, “It was the Badal family, who created the mafia raj in the state, which freely looted the resources of Punjab.”

Channi alleged that all this continued even during the tenure of Amarinder Singh, but now the government of the people has resolved to end the mafia rule. Chief Minister Channi also targeted Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal and accused him of not doing any development work in Delhi. On this occasion Channi inaugurated the 100 bedded district hospital and Shaheed Udham Singh Bus Terminal established at a cost of Rs 5 crore. He also announced to set up a medical college in the border district of Fazilka to promote medical services.

On the other hand, CM Channi made a surprise visit to a government school in the district on Tuesday and appreciated the management for ensuring proper maintenance, cleanliness and educational standards. Channi made a surprise visit to the Government Higher Secondary School at Wadala Bhitwad. During this, the Chief Minister also went to the classes and interacted with the students.

CM Channi asked questions to the children on many subjects

According to the government press release, during this time Channi asked questions to the children on many subjects, to which the children also answered. The Chief Minister asked the children to work hard to achieve their goals. He also inspected the compliance of the standards in the preparation of the mid-day meal and he was also satisfied about it. He also looked into the attendance of the employees.

Significantly, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has targeted the Channi government over the issues of schools and illegal sand mining. AAP leader and Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia had on December 1 made a surprise visit to two schools in the state and termed their condition as pathetic. Sisodia had alleged that the school toilets were smelly, the classrooms were covered with cobwebs and the furniture was broken. At the same time, in Makrona Kalan, there was only one teacher in the school from nursery to class V, who gets a salary of Rs 6,000 per month.
